Hiking shoes, anyone? (Day 101)
Let's talk about the importance of proper footwear for outdoor adventures. My dad's hiking shoes are in dire need of replacement, with a sole that's almost completely detached from the rest of the shoe. It's a reminder that even the most dedicated hikers need to prioritize their gear, especially when pushing through challenging terrain. It's a lesson in self-care and the importance of investing in quality equipment.
On a wild goose chase
The search for suitable hiking shoes proved to be a challenging endeavor. The local 'outfitter' was more of a kayak store, lacking the necessary gear. We turned to RatPack for assistance, and they directed us to CBS, who had mistakenly sent two pairs of shoes. Unfortunately, the second pair was half a size too small, a frustrating twist of fate. With limited options, we had no choice but to head to Dick's Sporting Goods, settling for a temporary pair of trail runners.
Time flies by when you're having fun, and crossing into New Jersey marked the end of a productive day. The journey into New Jersey was a significant milestone, as it brought us closer to our goal of completing the Appalachian Trail. Pennsylvania, with its rocky terrain and charming towns, offered a unique hiking experience, and we were eager to explore the forests of the state's beginning.
1300 miles!
Just past the state border, we hit the 1300-mile mark, a remarkable achievement for a relatively short day. The tent site, with its ample space and open sky, provided the perfect setting for a sunset. It was a moment to reflect on the journey so far and the challenges we had overcome.
